Public adjusters are usually paid a commission of anywhere from 5% to 20% of the settlement amount of the claim. Some states have laws that limit the commission a public adjuster can receive. The maximum commission percentage might be 10%, 15%, or 20%. This is meant to reduce unfair practices and protect policyholders’ interests.

If you come across a public adjuster who charges any money up front or a commission greater than 20%, beware. There might be something shady going on.
